So I am just about to finish up a bachelors degree in Geographic Information Systems. I have a possible job lined up...and probably have enough experience to really get a decent job anywhere I want. Problem is, my true passion is urban development/planning and I would like to get a masters degree in something similar. Is there anybody out there who has majored in GIS and urban planning? I am looking for some advice.

Just from the thread title, I was thinking of suggesting urban planning as an alternative. You can get into planning with a degree in Geography, but a masters degree is pretty much a de facto minimum. So go for it! Will it be possible to work full time and get your masters during the evening?

I sent you a direct message, though it may not be any new information that you don't already know.

I majored in GIS. I currently work, and have worked in the past, with people who have Masters' in urban planning.

What I've gathered is that urban planning decisions are highly political and rarely have anything to do with "Urban Planning" as an academic discipline.

I just got a minor in GIS. The GIS program I was in was more focused on the cartography and data acquisition end, not the CS or IT end. My BS is in geology.
