Has anyone on here ever studied at a foreign university overseas for at least a year or more? If so, did you enjoy your experience? Would you recommend it to someone?
Didn't you ask this a few days ago? If so - I responded to it, but no idea where that thread is. I did enjoy it, and I would recommend it, but only if you have no concern for the expense. Depending on where you go (I was in the UK) it is very expensive now. Is it worth it? Depends on what you want to get out of it. I'm extremely glad I did it - opened my eyes to many things. And I got a great education.
What are your goals for studying overseas? What do you think it can give you that a university in your home country cannot?
Firstly, if you're the type that gets homesick, I would not recommend it. That is because you'll not only be miserable, but you'll also do bad academically. Secondly, what's the duration of your oversea education? It is a transfer program of just a few semesters or is it a whole program? If it's for just short-term transfer program, anywhere should be fine. However, if it's a full program, you might want to choose your school with higher scrutiny. You'll need to check if the school that you'll be going to will be accredited when you come back (USA, I'm assuming).
Otherwise, if you can afford it, go ahead and do it. It will open your eyes to a world you never thought existed. Learn to accept the culture, food, people, language and blend in as much as you can. You'll have tons of fun. It was fun for me most definitely.
I would like study Chinese at a university in either mainland China or Taiwan. I feel that most of the universities in the US do not have really good Chinese programs with the exception of one or two universities.

What do you plan to major? Full, transfer or exchange programs? What level of proficiency in Chinese are you at from a range of 0 to 10 (0 don't know Chinese at all, 10 perfect)? You'll have to give us more specifics if you want better answers.

I have a B.A. from a foreign university. But I grew up partially overseas so I was bilingual. But there were many American students on one year programs who seem to be enjoy their experience outside of the USA.
You want to learn Chinese or you already know Chinese and want to do a degree program with Chinese as the language medium? They will be entirely different types of programs and experiences. For the former, if you really want to learn Chinese, by all means go to China, best way to learn a language is through immersion.

I almost attended the University of Toronto during my undergraduate years. It sounded like it would be a blast.
The only problem is how to finance it. Generally, international students pay a full unsubsidized rate and there is little financial aid and loans available to study abroad UNLESS you go to a program sponsored by a US university.
I was looking to find a university in China that has a degree program that can take a foreigner from a beginner level to an advanced level in 3-4 yrs.
After studying for a few years, I would like to be able to pass the HSK (Mandarin proficiency exam).
Does anyone have any suggestions?
