Okay. Well, Widefield/Security might be a better option then - or Falcon?

Yes, I will try to be open-minded and look at all areas, but ideally it will be an area that is within 30 min to Schriever, AND decently close to UCCS, where I'll be attending. For this reason i'm looking up north, but i've heard very nice things about Falcon so i'm not discounting the area.

Since you're the one without the car, it seems reasonable he should drive farther than you would bike. From UCCS to Schriever is about 23 minutes. If you could get somewhere around Austin Bluffs Parkway east of UCCS but west of Academy Blvd. it would be a reasonable bike ride for you, and a beautiful area to live, and a reasonable commute for him as well.

I'd not looked at all in this area, but there seem to be some decent rentals, so it's a definite contender!

So...just to be clear. Areas near Palmer Park, and the Patty Jewett, are for the most part wholesome? I've read 'stay away from the mall' and 'don't go below constitution', and these areas look fairly nearby.

I live in the Garden Ranch area. Inside the triangle defined by Academy, Union, and Austin Bluffs. Despite the three major roads that define the perimeter of the neighborhood, it's safe and quiet, with no through traffic. Good schools. Proximity to UCCS is a breeze, although there's a hill to climb (but that's true anywhere as the campus sits on a hilltop). The commute to Schriever isn't unreasonable. I think you might like it; it sounds like the neighborood might suit your needs very well.
