I'm thinking of heading out to COS sometime this summer to visit a close friend but would love to coordinate it with an area festival or event. I know there's the Hill Climb in July and then a Craft Beer fest in Manitou Springs in August. Any other good ones?

Thanks!

Old Colorado City hosts Territory Days over Memorial Day Weekend. It's essentially a street fair. Booths selling trinkets. Lots of food. Generally a couple bands.

The Air Force Academy's Graduation festivities are May 21-23. Graduation itself might be unwise, as the ceremony is long, and with the President speaking, Security will be brutal. But, there are parades (open to the public) on the 21st and 22nd, and these will include airpower demonstrations and parachute jumps and such, particularly at the Graduation Parade on the 22nd. The Thunderbirds will be doing their practices both Monday and Tuesday, and you can catch their show Wednesday without actually attending the ceremony.

The Colorado Springs Balloon Festival is Labor Day weekend.

There's a parade and street fair in Monument on the 4th of July. The parade is 'small-town', but is heavily attended. Palmer Lake has a fireworks show later that night.

I have been out to COS once before, a few years ago. Absolutely fell in love with the area! Last time I was there, I did Garden of the Gods and the cog up to the peak. My good friend out there camps for the Hill Climb every year. They also go out BIG for 4th of July and since the 2 events are just days apart, I decided to stay for both! And the tickets were cheap! I live in Syracuse and tickets from here were over $500, but I found ones from Rochester (hour and a half away) for $280!! Totally worth it! So I will get in Tues night 7/3 and leave Mon afternoon 7/9

Definitely go to the fireworks at the AF Academy... other spot I like is to go to an open space just south of Cheyenne Mt HS and watch the fireworks from the Broadmoor.

Colorado Springs city fireworks generally can't hold a candle to either one, unfortunately!
