I was made an offer of $34,500 and a $40 monthly phone stipend, others as well but they are variable and I would rather they be considered extra. My fiance will have to look for a job but let's assume he is offered around $32,000 his field usually makes more than mine but let's aim low. Would that be enough to live comfortably in a 1 or 2 bedroom apartment in a decent part of town in Colorado Springs with 2 dogs and a horse? I know everyone's expenses vary but could you just give me an idea? I live in San Diego and we are living paycheck to paycheck and just want out but I don't want to be in a different city, same situation as we are now.

P.s. I have been there and I loved it, we have also been talking about relocation and this is one city we considered. We also aren't planning on kids anytime soon

It's doable. Assume your net is about $4465 per month. Rent of $1200 would be 27% of net.

That's not living high but it's not bad for COS.

Don't forget to research horse boarding facilities and rates and factor that into your decision.

If you both have that income that's actually a little better than average for COS. Unless you don't manage your money you should be fine.

Plan on an additional $500 a month for horse boarding, unless you locate further east of town in the county where you may find house rentals that allow horses.

Yes - except for the horse thing, you could manage quite nicely here. There are a lot of horse properties in Black Forest, though I don't know if there are many rentals out that way (I think now).

I saw this house on PPAR and thought of this thread:
Full Listing Detail

May be out of your budget, but if you combine the boarding and housing budgets together...pretty sweet property.

That's a great find, a house and a horse stable for that price is an super deal. Thanks for helping the OP.
