Hello!

Wondering where the locals go to ski or board? And what is the winter commute like from COS to your favorite mountain/resort?

Wondering as my family may relocate to COS from PDX and if Im going to live in Colorado I want to be able to ski A LOT!!

Thanks for any feedback.

It used to be The Broadmoor but they closed that a few years ago (!).

Best of luck on those ski trips- this is the traffic you will see EVERY weekend during ski season: https://www.aspentimes.com/news/colo...ds-drive-i-70/

Are you getting more excited now?

You could use Hwy 24 and go to the ski areas in Summit County but then once you get there the crowds will be there too.

I grew up north of Denver and would never want to live up there again. When I ski I go south to Monarch, Wolf Creek, Telluride, Crested Butte etc..

They are FAR less crowded and the roads are also.

I do not ski, but friends at work go to Wolf Creek Pass.

My friends who ski/snowboard like to go to Monarch and they also ski some on Pikes Peak - no official resort there anymore, but this year has had good snow and they just do it on their own.

Closest resorts will be Monarch and Breckenridge at around 2 hour and change drive, give or take depending on road conditions. This is via Highway 24.

Next round at 2.5+ hours would be Keystone, A-Basin, Copper Mtn, Ski Cooper all from Highway 24 then CO-9.

Next round of places beyond that are going to be 3-4+ hour drives. Not exactly day trip material.

Gone or the days of Broadmoor, Pikes Peak, Conquistador, and Cucharra when you could be on a slope 30-40 minutes after leaving home. Of course these were all smaller places with limited runs and vertical. Rumor has it a group is looking at the feasibility of a small collection of runs off Mt Herman. Haven't heard much about it the last couple of years though.
