While understand your point, I think it’s sad that so much public money is spent building and rebuilding wheelchair ramps that will never be used by a wheelchair.

It is 100% certain that you will become partially or totally disabled prior to death.

For some of us that happens just prior to death but for others is leaves several years of partial mobility remaining. Our physical structures should be developed to make accessibility available to all.

Agreed, but how often do you see a wheelchair cruising around a typical neighborhood. I’ve never seen one in my neighborhood or my last neighborhood or the one before that. I’m not arguing against it in new construction, or in areas where there is a demand, but an expensive redo of every intersection every time the guideline changes?

Default Colorado Springs mayor considering extending tax to fix roads

https://www.kktv.com/content/news/Co...557919521.html

" Colorado Springs mayor, John Suthers, met with a group of commissioners working on the 2C project for a quarterly progress meeting.

As the five-year mark creeps up on city officials, they're hoping to extend the project for another five years in order to continue repairs on local roads.

“Look at the progress we’ve made. Look at what still needs to be done. The fact of the matter is even though we’ve made progress you don’t have to look very hard to see there’s a lot of roads that still need to be paved and with a 5 year renewal we will have completed over a third of the roads in Colorado Springs repaved under 2C," said Mayor Suthers.

According to the mayor if the project is extended the sales tax would be reduced about 0.05%. Right now taxpayers pay 0.62% in taxes. Due to a recent improvement in the economy, the mayor says we would still be raising around the same amount every year for road work.

The original plan was that sales tax would increase and the funds would amount to 50 million dollars each year. All of those funds would go directly toward road repairs.

Colorado Springs voters approved a sales tax increase for road improvements in 2015.

The mayor says the road improvements over the last four years is proof the city is keeping their promise and improving our infrastructure. Mayor Suthers wants the community to look at the big picture and the work that has already been done. Considering all of that work plus the work that could be done in the coming 5 years, the mayor says our roads could be miles better than they are.

With the extension, the mayor says they will finish repairing major roads and move onto more residential areas. He wants people to know roads will get better and to be patient with the construction process.

“Anybody who thinks that the cones are going to go away any time soon, that’s not going to happen. But, I ask people to be patient and view this as we’re finally getting up to snuff in terms of our public infrastructure and it’s going to be well worth the inconvenience," Suthers said.

Voters will have a chance to vote on this matter on the November ballot."

So far I think this program has been a huge success. I'm in favor of continuing. How about you?

As much as road work is annoying on the commute, the results are needed and something like this was drastically overdue when implemented. So I do think I would vote for continuation also. I mean, what's the alternative? "Gee, I liked when the roads just went to cr*p and no one did anything about it"? I do think someone needs to start paying more attention to some of our bridges, though!

Strongly in favor. Roads that are finished like Research look great. Yet there are many still that could use an update.

Who is responsible for paving North Marksheffel Rd widening, paving from Woodman to North Carefree? That is road is terrible.

What about Powers, from Research and north, shouldn't that be 6 lanes wide?

I know this is about paving, but where is the normal funding going for roads? I can't find anything on these? Are they not city or county responsibility?

Wouldn’t worry about it. Soon our socialist governor will take away our cars and will be riding buses.

But seriously, I don’t see that Powers needs 6 lanes. It does need an overpass at Research which will happen within 5 yrs, and it needs an extension to the 25 which will happen within 10 yrs.

With the huge daily back-ups now on EB Woodman going to Banning Lewis Ranch during rush hours surely the developers are going to get these roads widened.

Oh wait.......

Why would Research, Woodmen, Austin Bluffs all get widened to 6 lanes, but not Powers?
