"Colorado Springs is the most desirable place to live in the United States, says a recent survey by U.S. News & World Report.

With Pikes Peak and the surrounding Front Range mountains as a backdrop, and a host of recreational opportunities, Colorado Springs has been growing rapidly, gaining 39,951 residents between 2010 and 2017 for a growth rate of more than 12 percent, U.S. Census Bureau estimates show.

Even millennials are flocking to the city, with that population increasing by 14.7 percent from 2010 to 2015, says a study from Brookings Institution’s Metropolitan Policy Program."

Although I might agree with that ranking, I wish we could slow down that growth.

If you already live here, more growth just means more traffic. However, I'll admit that attracting young educated people improves the community.

The Springs does not have a road system to handle more traffic. Traffic will end up being worse than Denver.

I am glad I moved out. Nice place but too much traffic when I was there 12 years ago.

These young, educated workers are bringing with them the gig economy and flexible work schedules so they have a greater amount of variability around when they are interacting in the local community. , So, greater overall traffic volume, yes, always at peak hours, not necessarily.

See above, but I will admit that a good section of the city built before 1970 will suffer the most from these impacts. Most construction since then has been putting significant road structure put in place to deal with volume. Combine this with repurposing, calming, and walkability efforts in the city core and Cos is on the verge of a reinvintion of its self yet again.

...and miss out on all the great stuff coming, no way. Will there be some pains along the way, absolutely. Growth can be a messy business. But it also brings additional benefits along with the traffic and people in the forms of more of everything positive as well.

I worry about water. Where is all the water going to come from for these lawns everyone has to have with their new house? If you have not already, you should drive around the northeast part of Colorado Springs. The growth over the last 5 years is shocking.


Other than that, this is a pretty nice place to live.

The Gazette is based out of Colorado Springs, so the self-congratulatory praise is to be expected. This is nothing more than the media and PR boosters holding hands together and molding realities and perceptions, with dollars signs in mind.

How about an objective and independent source to tout instead?

I think the Gazette is just running a story on a survey. Granted surveys don't tell the whole story but with the number of people moving to the Springs and the rising real estate prices I would conclude that the survey is fairly accurate.
