Greetings All,
We're considering moving to the area from Texas, and I've been researching available jobs in the IT field in Colorado Springs. I see quite a few positions that require an active security clearance (which, I do not have), I'd like to know from any Locals that work in IT, are there decent IT jobs available in the area that either dont require TS/SCI, or will hire and sponsor the clearance?

I'm a Linux guy with 20+ years of experience, so I'd be looking at senior level positions, I'd appreciate any feedback.

The big dog in the entire region for IT jobs is in the Denver metro area, to include the Denver Tech Center, and the Hwy 36 corridor from Denver into Boulder. Lots of IT in Boulder but the city is very expensive so a lot of people live in the surrounding area and commute to Boulder.

There are some IT jobs in Colo Spgs that don't require a government clearance as both FEDEX and WalMart have DATA centers there, plus some other IT work.

Hopefully some locals with better insights will chime in soon.

Getting a clearance can take some time and some jobs can be filled while a clearance is in process; if you're personal history would pass a background clearance check then it's worth considering.

Lastly don't rule out posting a Job Wanted ad on the local craigslist to drum up some interest.

As Mike said, Denver is head and shoulders above the Springs wrt to IT jobs. Denver/Boulder/Aurora has a significantly broader tech sector and a more diversified economy than Colorado Springs.

What kind of IT jobs are you looking for? Saying you have a lot of Linux experience is kinda vague.

It's hard to give much advice with such a vague description of your background/expertise, but if you do any kind of Linux software development you should definitely be looking for a telecommuting job, too. That's what allowed me to relocate to COS from Boston 9 years ago. Basically everyone in our group works remotely unless they prefer to work out of an office.
