My family will be moving in the next month or so and I have no idea where to start when looking for a rental that meets our needs. Anyone have experience working with a good, knowledgeable realtor or rental agency?

Most realtors won't work with rental properties due to low/no income from handling the transaction.

Be careful with Craigslist, if it sounds too good to be true, it's a scammer; never send any money to a CL person until you can nail down for sure that they do exist.

Use realtor.com or other such sites to locate rentals with reputable firms.

Tell us more about your requirements so we can help you. Things like the amount of rent you're comfortable with, work location, school needs, etc.

Here's my advice: Try Craigslist and call people up. Don't judge them by how they talk, as they will be trying to sell you a lease. But look at the properties and pay close attention to the screens, sliding glass doors, the deck, baseboards, sinks, oven and other things that can show wear and tear. If these things are in bad shape, chances are the landlord never fixes them. I have rented a few places and I have found that the ethics of the landlord play a huge part in your happiness. And they always will tell you how wonderful everything is. Some landlords, usually the ones who only own 1 or 2 properties, really take care of problems. The bigger ones are more in it for the money. Good Luck!!
