Hello all, I am wanting to move to Colorado from Orange County. I am getting bored of this place and need something new.

I am looking for a smaller mountain town that is close to Denver. I really don't want to live in Denver because I might as well stay here then. I flew to Denver 6 months ago and loved the area and the surrounding mountains.

Golden felt to much like a suburb so I won't be looking there much, but I am not excluding it. My favorite town was Evergreen but I didn't see much of the city.I have some questions about Evergreen:
1.) Does the city have good schools?
2.) We drove there from Denver and it took about 35 minutes, is that normal or did I get lucky?
3.) And are the people friendly?

P.S. I read another topic and there was someone from SoCal who was complaining about the snow, I know that it snows there

I've only been to Evergreen once this summer, and that's about how long it took me to drive there. I'm pretty sure it'll take longer in the winter / with snow, but then, it generally takes longer getting anywhere in snow, so that's to be expected.

That is why I like Evergreen so much, you can get away from all of the crowds and people but still be very close to a major city. Someone else told me that the schools were good too, but I just wanted a second opinion

Evergreen is awesome. I live downtown and it takes me about 30 minutes to drive there...obviously more if it's snowing. It seems like I've read the schools are pretty good but I can't speak from experience. The people are very friendly and seem to love living there. As soon as I sell my place, I'm moving up there too.

For some reason, a lot people in Denver act like Evergreen is hours away when I tell them I'm moving there. It reminds me of the people in LA who never went Malibu because it was "so far". Believe me, if you're used to SoCal traffic, it won't be a problem at all.

Yes but when I drove from Denver to Evergreen it wasn't bad at all, at least not anything compared to LA.

lol Malibu is far but when most people in LA say that, they are talking about the time it takes to get to Malibu and not the actual distance. The is the scale for most of SoCal.

yes I drive well in snow, but how much does it snow there in the winter? My family owns a place in Mammoth Lakes, CA. Is the snowfall anything like that place?

It snows enough to make that a terrible commute. There is a park n ride near the highway. That might be a more responsible option.

I'd look at Deer Creek or Morrison, a little closer still in the foothills.
