Thanks for all your good advice.

Just to be on the safe side we moved the gathering to later in the summer. We've also moved it to Durango, thanks to the mountain bikers in the clan. Durango it is.

Now I'm trying to figure out if we stay at the Durango Mountain Resort or in Durango.

Also reading about drinking a certain kind of tea and apparently, there's a medication you can take beforehand to ward of the effects of altitude.

Wink Then elevation, again

One tea that would surely help in preventing altitude sickness would be that brewed with Coca leafs. But in this supposed land of freedom, good luck procuring the leafs of this natural plant.

Purgatory (or if you must, Durango Mountain Resort) is a fine and beautiful place. It is not, however, all that close to Durango. It would likely be a good choice if you wished to procure upscale condominium rentals, intended to spend a good deal of time outside, as well in exploring nearby San Juan County and Silverton. Not as ideal if most of your family would prefer to spend most of their time exploring Durango and its environs, shopping and dining.

Since part of the decision to relocate this gathering from Steamboat Springs to Durango was apparently predicated on elevation, one might keep in mind that Durango's elevation is 6,512 feet; the base elevation at Purgatory is 8,793 feet.

Durango is a fine town. You might all enjoy it more in September.
