Hi guys!

I'm taking a trip from Kansas City to Las Vegas in late September and was considering taking I-70 as long as the weather allowed.

But I'm told there is some big construction project going on in Glenwood Springs that is greatly tying up traffic at all hours on I-70. Does anyone know if this is a long term construction and will be still going on in late September?

Best to always check the CDOT website for road conditions, weather, cameras, etc.

Probably yes.

CDOT is replacing the bridge in Glenwood that crosses I-70 and the CO River. Info here:

https://www.codot.gov/projects/sh82grandavenuebridge

There are also other things on I-70 that may still be going in Sept. Check here:

Road Conditions, Speeds, Travel Times, Traffic Cameras, Live Streaming Traffic Cameras, Road Closures and Road Work Information provided by Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) a branch of Colorado Department of Transportation

PS Per Google Maps, going by way of Wichita and Albuquerque is only 1.5 hours longer

I-70 is doing pretty well through the project, there is some back up in the morning on the Eastbound side. The project is having a bigger impact on people trying to get on 82 heading south, but even that is getting better as people are planning better.

Thanks for the info. We'll be heading out on I70 next week going from Buena Vista to Grand Junction. I was wondering how much extra time to allow.

Even if the slowdown eats 30 minutes of your time, you're still an hour to the good over the other route. But the scenery on I-70 is massively better, the trip of a lifetime for some people.
