My husband and i are thinking of moving to colorado -- we are wanting some land so we can have horses -- does anyone have some input on a nice area where we can have horses without being too far from civilization.
Thanks

How close to civilization is close?

In Northern Colorado, land is fairly expensive, especially when you start talking horses.

If you get a stick built house on some land, not a modular or mobile home you're looking at a minimum of $275,000 for 1 acre, $325,000 on 4 acres, to millions on 40+ acres.

How many horses do you want/have? How far away time wise do you want to be from the city or town?

thank you for responding
we are planning on buying a piece of land and building a modular home on it -- we want at least 5 acres -- i have found land in hartsel, fairplay -- in those areas but i don't really know what they are like-- my husband works with home depot so that can't be too far and we would like to be near a city that has most of your major retail stores -- wal mart, nice restaurants, fast food places, just a normal good size city that has things. I'm hoping to not be more than like 10-15 min from a city

Hartsel and Fairplay are a good 1.5-2 hours from Denver and do not have any big stores like Home Depot, Wal Mart, etc. My suggestion would be to look southeast-- around Elizabeth, Franktown, etc. I don't know what land prices are like around there, but there are bigger pieces of land for horses and it is closer to city amenities (Elizabeth is a bit farther), and it is hilly and forested in many areas. If you don't care for the mountain scenery, you could look north, around Watkins, Bennett, etc-- there it's flat but again it's not too far from the city.

TRoshy-

I agree that Elizabeth town is a good place. Also, look a little further south. Monument has a HomeDepot, Falcon/Peyton has a Home Depot w/ in 15 minutes. Kinda the outskirts of Colorado Springs. What price range are you wanting? bashep

Thanks Bashep -- we are wanting to buy land in the price range of 5,000 -10,000 and then build a modular on it. Our total price range all together is around 150,000, and we would like about 5 acres. It really doesn't matter where we are as long as it is a descent area -- has a home depot nearby and some of the popular retail stores -- oh and of course good schools. One more thing i would like to have snow capped mtn. views -- one of the main reasons i want to move there.

Ok, somebody correct me if I am wrong. But I think they are building a HomeDepot in Woodland Park, CO. If so... There is some beautiful land up there for sale. I also found some other land aswell. Let me know if you want me to send them to you. bashep
