You are supposed to hold on to the license plate when you sell a car in AZ?

Toll -> License -> Stated Owner -> Credit reporting.

Just pay the effing thing like you should have when the first, cheap bill arrived, instead of fretting for two months and tripling it.

I have gotten loan before with stupid credit collection on my report and no one even blinked an eye at it.

In Nevada the plates don’t go with the vehicles. We had buyers back out from California when they realized we weren’t letting them take the plates. Here they have to apply for a 10 day moving permit.

Goody for you. Most of us know the value of a spotless credit report. You probably could have gotten better terms without such marks on your report. Crappy credit costs... and costs, and costs.

There may even be legal consequences. Wouldn't it be fun to get hauled in for something like this because a broken taillight stop shows a warrant?

...why would they care? AFAIK, California (which, as noted, assigns the plates to the vehicle, not the owner) allows time to register a car purchase. They could have stopped in the first DMV city (Truckee, Barstow) if they were worried about it.

License plates to the owner is a dumb system. We don't have to wear them on our a$$, after all.

It's a debt like any other. Collection agency is unlikely to sue anyone for such small debt. Even if they were to call a quick c & d letter will stop their phone calls

But they can report non payment on your credit report. I personally wouldn’t want that, but sounds like you are OK with it.
