"IN" Durango or near? How near?

Town interests? Outdoor interests? How far / high are you willing to hike?

Not in Durango, but Mesa Verde cliff dwellings are only an hour out of town. A must see.

Time of year? Will you have a car? How long will you be in the area?

"adult" as in x-rated, or just no children?

Why are you looking at Durango?

Its a good place for live music.. I dont live there but google should find some events. Pick the type of music you like The downtown area has a bunch of blocks of touristy stores and restaraunts. Great walking and interesting people watching which is good since parking can be difficult. Durango always seems a little crowded to me but that is because its such a cool place and lots of people want to be there.

Nice drive.. Durango on 550 north past Purgatory Ski area, over some high passes to Silverton, wild ride down 550 to Ouray. Really cool high mountain wild flower show happening right now. In Ridgway, make a left turn at the only stop light in Ouray county and head to Telluride which is a few mile detour off the hwy. Then through Rico, Dolores. Several options to get back to Durango from Dolores, one goes past Mesa Verde NP. I think this is some of the most beautiful scenery in the US. Biased a little, I live in Ridgway.

May I call you Muffinpuncher? Muffinpuncher, whatever adult means, Orvis hot springs between Ridgway and Ouray is clothing optional. Ouray hot springs is a great place for either adults or family (bring a swim suit).

The Spousal Unit holds that the Million Dollar Highway is the coolest road he’s ever driven and we’ve done all kinds of mountain scenery like that in the US and Europe.

If you like classical music, there is a big Music in the Mountains event.

Most of the music offerings in town are local acts or minor touring artists.

The spot of the movie filming of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance jumping off a cliff into the water is a bit north of town.

There are rodeos happening in August.

Chuckwagon barbeque dinners. Grass feed burgers / steaks. More than 150 restaurants.

Diamond Belle old time saloon.

At least 4 breweries with pubs and a distillery. Many wine & liquor stores.

Lakes with boat rentals.

County fair coming up.

Chainsaw art demonstrations.

Golf.

Occasional theatre events, circuses, burlesque shows, roller derby, etc. Small museums.

Handful of professional landscape artists with storefronts.

Fishing and fishing guides.

ATV rentals at the edge of the mountains. Mountain bike and E-bike rentals.

Mountain downhill coaster.

Silverton.

Indoor climbing wall. Climbing guides.

Farm / craft markets.

Sky Ute Casino about a half hour from town.

Outlets for locally produced wine and vineyard visits.

Wild "company" if interested and you look.

Motorcycle events. Car shows. Car museum.

Historical walking tour (with fwiw locations of gun fights, hangings, boxing title fight, etc.)

Spas, hot springs, hotel pools, etc.

A dozen or more dispensaries. Cigar shop.

Pool joints. Country dancing.

Coffee shops. Ice cream shops. Bakeries. Candy, chocolate and tea outlets. Other speciality food stores.

New and used book shops.

Star watching.

Hiking from 2 miles to 50. Animas Valley overlook. Paved river walk.

And more depending what you want to see / do.

I meant professional landscape "photographic" artists but there are painters too. Jewelry stores.

Strater and Palmer Hotels from the 19th century. To see from outside or briefly inside.

River bridges.

Horseback riding.

Botanical gardens. Bird watching. Turtle Lake Refuge for wild foods. Mushroom hunting.

Rockhounding.

I think there are still ziplines.

Andrews Lake for a picnic. Coal Bank and Molas Passes. Cascade or Hermosa Creek trails.

Cabin rentals.

Middle Mountain (above Vallecito Reservoir) or Missionary Ridge forest roads.

The train is the signature must see attraction. Even if you don't ride it, you can go north of town to or past Rockwood and watch it run or go to the downtown train station museum.
