Hi all,
I'm considering moving to the denver/boulder area. I'm interested in the west/nw suburban or semi-rural neighborhoods. Anywhere from Golden to Nederville to Lafayette/Longmont. My criteria is low crime rates and access to nature but close to the fun of the city. I'd probalby rent initially but would then be in the market for a house, prefferably with a little land, budget up to 275k. Anywhere that is diverse and liberal friendly is a plus. any suggestions? Thanks a bunch.

Given your price range and the basic gist of your post, I'd say somewhere in Weld or Larimer counties is probably your best bet. I think your price is too low for anything in the foothills or mountains, though, unless you buy land (small) and build on it yourself. Anything south of Boulder County is likely to be too suburban and crowded or too expensive for you.

I'm not worried about being crowded. I just don't want to be smack in the middle of urban living. I'm not looking for a large plot of land. Just a few acres. I live in a suburb of Austin, TX. I'm looking for a community similar to here. It's a great place, but just too darn hot. I was in Denver in May and got a general feel for the area. I wouldn't mind being rural (but not to the east), just within about 30 miles from the city.

morrison, kittridge, evergreen, pine, conifer; you can get a small house on an acre for less that $275

Firestone, Frederick, Dacono, Erie all with easy access to I25 but still with the small town feel.

"A few acres"? More likely 1-2 if you get lucky.

How about renting? Any input on good neighborhoods that jive with a more alternative or artistic lifestyle, but has good access to the outdoors? Thanks.

The long story is that I'll be heading out in my old rv to look at different parts of the country; denver, LA and san francisco and new england. I'll only be spending a few weeks in each area. I'm hoping to get some idea of where to look before I go. Thanks.
