I think it depends on the county. The Denver post did a story on it not too long ago.

It depends on a lot of things...where you are, the circumstances of the offense, if you retain an attorney, the mood of the sentencing judge, and your previous driving record, among others.

Direct costs (fines, alcohol evaluation, classes, re-licensing, court costs, legal fees, installation of BA interlock on car etc) could be anywhere from $2500-5000 and up. If there are aggravating circumstances, or the DA in that jurisdiction is getting tough as part of a campaign, or you got wise with the arresting cop...could be much worse.

Indirect costs (alternative transportation during 6-12 months without a license, insurance premium increases, loss of employment or impact to employment such as adverse decisions on promotions, or inability to move to other jobs due to employability issues associated with DUI) are typically $5K or more. If you were already on thin ice with an insurer due to other problems, just the premium hit alone could top $7,500.

A good rule of thumb--$10,000 without material complications.

Hmmmm...how many cab rides home does that buy???

A quick google search turned up estimates from $8866 to $10K.
