Im coming down to visit the zoo and I was wondering if these Microtel Inn locations are in a decent part of the city?

1520 Barbara Dr.
Columbia, SC 29223

411 Piney Grove Rd.
Columbia, SC 29210

Which Microtel is better and in a better location?

Thanks

The one at Piney Grove is fine and much closer to the zoo. Not sure about where the other one is.

They are both in fine locations, but there is an Extended Stay America on Gracern Road, which is only a couple of blocks from the zoo. I understand the rates there are pretty reasonable.

Both are in good locations.... the one on Piney Grove would be closer to the zoo [about 8miles] and it's also closer to the Harbison Blvd area...which is home to a lot of restaurants, a mall, movie theater, Frankies fun park and etc.

The Barbara Dr locations is about a 20min drive to the zoo, but it's close to theaters, restaruants...and 2 area malls...Columbia and [while not close...it's not far away] the Village at Sandhills...skating rink and etc...

I don't know where you are coming from but i hope you have fun and enjoy the trip...if kids are involved....check out Edventure childrens musuem downtown off of Gervias St

thanks for the suggestion I use to use Extended Stay it is a good chain, until I learn about the Mircro pass that I can use to get every 10th night free at Micro

Awesome info you guys. I like Microtel due to affordability and free wireless (got to get my dose of city data lol)
but there locations of this chain can be a hit or miss.

Besides the zoo what are you guys top 5 things to do and also add one indoor thing in case it rains.
Thanks

As a graditude for this information if you ever come to Charlotte area. Someone will be glad to share similar information

btw South Carolina is more friendly

Out at Lake Murray (Irmo), they have just finished widening the dam. You can walk or bike, right across the dam on a walkway. There is a state park on one side, for fishing and boating, and a beach on the other side. Parking is on both sides. To walk across is about 2 miles. Very nice for exercise, and beautiful view of lake.
