Default Lexington/Columiba-Moving

We are probably relocating to this because of job opportunites. We have been to SC several times but always on the ocean. We came down for about a week to check out the Columbia area but would love some input on the surrounding areas. We will start probably in an apartment until we feel comfortable to purchase. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. We were told Lexington is good? We live in Michigan in the suburbs of Detroit but close to University of Michigan. We both lost our jobs in Michigan this last year and realize we need to make the move. We like both Carolinas but so far opportunties have come up in this area.

As far as suburbs go, the Lexington, Irmo, and northeast Columbia areas are the most popular in the metro area. What line of work will you guys be in?

Irmo was rated as one of the top places to raise a family. LExington,Lugoff,Elgin are all also nice areas. Columbia is in a good central location and may be poised for significant growth.

My husband already has a job there and our kids are in Michigan Colleges and will come down for the summer months and breaks. We live on a lake in Michigan and love to boat and camp but also like the city. We will be in a apartment for a few months so hopefully this will give us some time to check things out. We like to watch sports to and i wondering does the area support the college teams down there because there are no professional sporting events. Thanks

You will love Lake Murray. The water is very warm to swim in the summer time. Great for skiing and fishing.

Big college football town with the University of SC, and also Clemson rivalry. There is also college basketball, and Columbia has ice hockey.

Tons of new apts near the mall in Irmo. (Columbiana Center Mall), not to be confused with Columbia Place Mall, such similar names. The Columbiana mall area apts are about 5 or 6 miles from the lake.

The Columbia area is one of the last holdouts for reasonably priced housing, also reasonable prop taxes.

Don't come if you don't like hot summers!
