I would recommend the Cataula area as it is close to a number of schools and is convenient to Columbus. This is not a scenic area of the country by no means and is known for long hot-humid summers that begin in March and go through October. As with some communities located in the USA that have a large minority population, you have about 1/2 of the city of Columbus that is in the "undesirable" area. This is predominantly where the crime is occuring. Unfortunately the "Uptown" area of Columbus, is located in this area. Flat Rock park is nice, but again, have you been to any other parks in other states? Spectacular is not a word that comes to mind when describing this park. It is "ok", and is a nice distraction from the scenery of restaurants and stores that make-up the skyline of Columbus. Across the river in Alabama you will find a very plain "lay of the land" look of the area with a lot of "redneck" mentalities to deal with. It is cheaper to locate your home there, but not worth it when compared with the Harris County area of Georgia. We will be moving out of state this summer and that will not come soon enough.
Typical for someone like you to say this.
