AA female moving to Columbus for job at OSU. looking for apts and checked out the Grant Commons website and they are beautifully renovated. Super interested however Trulia shows some scary crime stats for the immediate area (multiple rapes incl minors, assault, robbery). wondering how safe that area would be for a woman living alone with crazy hospital hours. any insight is appreciated. thanks

If I remember correctly, Grant Commons is in Weinland Park. Weinland Park used to be one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the city due to the presence of a violent street gang called the Short North Posse. It's my understanding that most gang members are now in prison due to a years-long crackdown. The area is certainly getting better, but can be very rough around the edges. I'd be wary of walking from OSU hospital back to Grant Commons at off hours. You might be better off looking for something west of High Street in the Victorian Village area.

Thanks for the info. It looks like the neighborhood is on the come up but hasn't quite gotten there yet. The renovations are gorgeous though but definitely not worth compromising safety.
