I was born and raised in suburbs of Columbus and have lived on the southeast side, northeast side and north side. We stayed in Grove City for a year with a relative while our home was being built and I have to say I was pleasantly suprised. The schools are/were having problems, but we put our kids in a private christian school while we stayed there which was suprisingly affordable and a really good school to boot. There are some areas that are nicer than others, but in general we found that the people were nice and friendly. The southwest side of town (where Grove City is located) does have a bad rap in general. There seems to be a stereotype about the "west" side and Grove City just gets lumped in with it. It is just assumed that everyone that lives there is a "red neck". It is often referred to as "Grove-tucky". You do pass a landfill on the way to Grove City and it can make the area smell in the summer (but only the part that is closest to downtown). Good Luck with your move and again...you should visit first.

Hmmm....these posts are making me think. We are looking to relocate to OH soon and have visited Grove City twice in the last 2 months. It seems like a very nice place to live, sort of a feeling of being in the country in certain areas, and a city feeling in others. These comments on the school systems are scaring me, however. I live in NY in a very well-off area with top-notch schools. We are not well-off, and that is why my husband is looking to get a promotion soon. I have spent *literally* hours reading posts and researching about 40 different cities/towns on this site. I'm starting to get burnt out with the whole thing. Anyone have any solid advice (from experience) for a young couple with three young children? I am more of the small-town type, but don't want to be the hicktown type, if you know what I mean. Thanks so much for listening! lol

I just moved to GC back and May - I'm not sure about the schools. My children are still young. The crime is very low and I find it overall a Nice place. I'm seeing a trend with some posts. If your not from certain areas, they tend to knock GC down - I had my neighbors come over with goodies and lil gifts to welcome us to the neighborhood. I found that so cool, you know???? Everyone I come in contact with are always polite...

I moved here from Kansas (now where I came from had bad schools and crime) - There are some really nice areas to GC -

I'm originally from NY and I know how schools do go -

LookingtoleaveNY- I have noticed that also. We will be moving to the Columbus area in October and I've looked online at houses in GC. It looks like a nice area, but all of the talk about the schools has scared me off.

One of the most important factors in buying a home for us is a good school system (and good resale value as we will only be in Columbus while my DH is in school). THere are so many houses in GC for sale...is that partly due to the schools?

I am just confused about the area. It sounds and looks nice, but maybe a little too risky for me.

Grove City is a nice area (Exclamation Point) The schools are comparable with others in the area. There are more low income families in the Southwestern City SD when compared to other suburb schools which tends to lead to lower school district scores. However, most of these lower income families are hardworking folks! There are lots of houses for sale allover the Columbus area right now (Exclamation Point) We are currently experiencing a buyers market (good for u as a buyer) due to a market with excess housing inventory. The resell in GCity is good, but if you can afford the $6-7000 yearly/$500 monthly property tax (based on a 2000 sq ft home) in some of the more elite areas then go for it.

The best thing to do is stay in the area you plan on moving to, or around that area and get a feel for it. Ask local people about things before making a very big decision. The school thing doesn't affect me right now and I'm not sure If I'll be in this area in another few years - Hubby's job might go elsewhere.......

I've seen some remarks on here and honestly, I'm not going to go by ones word on here, because they might hate the area themselves and prefer to promote thier town - Hope that makes sense

Good Luck with whatever you decide. It's a big decision.

Since when does low income lead to poor school results. If you have children and are thinking of moving into the swcsd turn around and leave. My parents are products of the district, myself, and my children currently attend. I used to be proud of our school's...but if you really ask around the town most of the kids attend private school. Grovecity great place to live.....school's too big a chance.
