Is it possible? Windows 7 will allow password-protect on resume from screen saver, but I'm having trouble finding a way to do this for sleep mode. I had the same problem with XP, too. You gotta love Microsoft.
Open your control panel, go to power settings, on the left hand side look for "require a password on wakeup" - also, Microsoft has nothing to do with you not knowing how to do it

But they do seem to get most of the blame when a user can't take 5 minutes to research and find a solution. If it's not immedietly obvious and staring them in the face it can't possible be anyone elses fault but MS.

It works fine on all of my XP or Vista computers. I wouldn't be surprised if it also works in Win 7.
I find it annoying that they change so many perfectly OK things, seemingly just for the heck of it. It is a waste of user's time to figure out the latest change to perform basically the same function. Maybe they do it so they can call it 'new' and justify the work of the responsible departments.
It is more annoying when you have multiple computers using different versions of Windows and jump around among them.

With very little effort, and a lot less willful stuborness one would discover that what was believed to be perfectly OK really sucks.
We actually spend very little time "using the OS" as it is merely the interface we use launch applications, where we spend 99%+ of our time. The OS is an interface between applications and the hardware and Win 7 does a pretty damn good job of doing that.
Or stick with Win98 and you dial-up, as you probably had the same ill founded complaints when you first got XP
How do you select a password in XP. I don't see an option for this.
