If you're just making a flyer, I also vote for Word or other similar program. I've done exactly that using Word and they came out looking good with minimal effort. I have used GIMP now for two years and like it (e.g. cleaning up dozens of old family pics for archival purposes, ending up with images that look many times like they were taken yesterday), but it takes practice using it because it offers an enormous array of features, most of them not geared toward everyday use, whereas you can throw together some text and some images with Word in just a few minutes without reading a help page.
No. But for the casual user GIMP is more than adequate.
