I don't know if it's related to the message on my HP notebook saying a USB device attached to my computer is not recognized...I haven't attached anything to the USB port of this new laptop.

Someone please help! I love my webcam!

Sounds like a motherboard issue. Taking it anywhere for diagnostics in Bklyn will be expensive (Take it Staples I think they are the lowest at about $70, BestBuy will run around $200). Easiest way is to go out and buy a thumb drive (32gb should run about $40) and copy off all your data. Then run a full system restore. If the problems comes up after the full system restore then its a motherboard issue and the laptop is basically a throw away. If the problem resolves itself then go out a purchase Norton Internet Security & Norton Utilities ($40 on Ebay as combo) as you probably had malware infect the driver database in your computer

Read through this: USB Device Not Recognized on Windows 7 - USB mouse

The gist of it seems to be: unplug the power cord from the laptop, remove the battery, have a cup of coffee, put it all back together, see if it works

If that doesn't do it post again.

Please don't take it in for diagnostics, or do a full system restore until you've exhausted the help available here. It can something as simple a driver issue.
