Hey Samuel, what are you using to play it?
Perhaps it is trying to play the digital AC3 (5.1) stream without downmixing it to stereo

I highly recommend KMPlayer - it's free and plays EVERYTHING. I'm 95% sure this will play the sound from the file you ripped.

I am using a standard windows media player for playing. VLC rips fine, in most cases, but again there is no sound. There are audio options, which maybe i should play with. Not sure. Thanks for the suggestions.

Perhaps VLC is not able to rip it properly? Also, why don't you use VLC Player to view the ripped video instead of WMP?

FYI: Another excellent multimedia (DVD) player is the Open Source SMPlayer.
