I am using the "driverquery" in the command prompt to find out more detailed information on a specific driver installed in my computer. I wish to use the "driverquery" to find that out..a long story. Anyway, I can get a long list of all of the drivers installed on my computer. However, I can not make sense of some of the display names. You see, I have two CD/DVD drives. One is the original that came with the computer. However, it did not write to DVDs. So I installed a DVD writer...it is now my J drive. Anyway, I am really interested to see what the "driverquery" says about my J drive that was installed. However, I do not know which of the display names refers to my J Drive. Oh yeah, the DVD burner I installed was an Optiarc DVD RW AD-72806. None of the display names look anything like "J" or "Optiarc." So how do I know which one is my J drive (it works fine) that I installed?

Device Manager then open DVD drives and click on the DVD in question. Open Properties and click on the Driver tab. Click on Driver Details to see the file names.

Hi -

Run DirectX Kernel Diags... the output is much easier to discern -
START | type dxdiag | bottom-center "Save All Info"

Scroll down in the saved text file to:
------------------------
Disk & DVD/CD-ROM Drives
------------------------
Look for:
Drive: D:
Model: Optiarc BD ROM BC-5500S ATA Device
Driver: c:\windows\system32\drivers\cdrom.sys, 6.01.7601.17514 (English), , 0 bytes

It should be the default Windows SCSI CD-ROM Driver cdrom.sys for all DVD drives.

Your right! Thank you very much. Both CD/DVD devices are under c:\windows\system32\drivers\cdrom.sys I did check it out under the DxDiag. My E and J Drives are both labeled under cdrom.sys! Hence, I was indeed able to find it under "driverquery" now that I knew what to look for.

However, I am just confused about the date listed. The date on both drives is April 13th, 2008 after my computer was up and running the E drive but before I purchased the J drive. What is this date on DxDiag pertaining to? Is it some kind of software? Is there a way to find out when the actual hardware was installed on my computer or is there just no record of it?

Thanks one more time for your input! You are great!
