Did you notify the library about the loss in case someone turns it in?
Yes, I checked with their "lost & found" section and they showed me the basket full of returned flash drives but mine was not there. I will check again on Monday but the way it looks as of now, I will not see it again. Now everyone knows how I look like (including my family) since so many photos were on it, they also know my driver license number since a scanned copy of it was on it, etc, etc. Oh well, I hope nothing happens. I hope everyone on here learns from my experience...
Yes, I paid the price of carelessness. Thumb drives are so small that they are easy to drop anywhere. In my case, I was at a public library and on their public computer and that is where I forgot it. It only took me 30 minutes to realize I left it on it but by the time I went to recover it, it was long gone! Thieves are everywhere these days so be careful people.

I agree! However, like Tek geek just said I had no choice since I don't have Microsoft Office on my laptop and I needed to do something in Word. Oh well, we live and learn I guess.

Update! The guy who found my flashdrive emailed me to tell me he left it today at the front desk. I was excited of course but wondered what took him one week to contact me? I still don't feel safe knowing that (in the process of looking for my email) I know he opened my other files/documents that contain my SS#, etc.
Anyway, I'm glad he cared enough to return it so now I am in the process of password-protecting it should I lose it again.
And this is just a guess, but I'd doubt if he's going to do anything with any of the information; he'd hardly have returned it, if it were his intentions to plunder your resources.

Let's not assume he didn't. He had it a week and anything goes. The SSN cannot be changed but the account and the credit cards can be replaced with new set of numbers. Also notify the SSN admin and put an alert on it.
Jesus Christ, dear God in heaven. Please go back to the Library and check daily. It's unfair that someone didn't turn it in. Please ask other people who were with you in that room. Don't stop looking for it.
Check your thread dates, this post is 3.5 years old, I don't think it would help to go back to the library today.
