I've used Office 2010 a lot and I've seen books (and the wiki page) about Office 2013 - are there any real differences that strike you? The diffs I read about, seem trivial. The ribbon looks slightly different. I mostly use Word, by the way, and not the others.
If you're using it with Windows8, of course certain things will look different from Windows7.
Did you notice in 2010 or 2013, you can't select Print Preview any more. You have to do File/Print and it will show you the print preview. That must have confused basic users.
Robert for the average user Word 97 is more than sufficient. Most of the features they add over time are really for power users.
The problem with using 2003 and older is that the average user will be confused when they are required to use Office at work since the UI is completely different. Anyone who plans on having a desk job should use 2007 and newer.
I use Office Pro 2003, and continually get security updates.
I am under the impression that those updates will cease next year, as MSFT ends support for Office 2003. For this reason alone, I am considering upgrading to Office 2010 or 2013. http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/windo...ofsupport.aspx
How important is security in my Office suite?
The biggest difference is Licensing.
With 2010 you are allowed to install that on 2 computers, like your desktop and laptop.
With 2013 you need to buy a copy for each.
How often do you run macros or other scripts in your Office suite? Which applications are you actually using?
I use Word the most when interacting with others.
Receiving/sending Word files and documents.
Also Publisher, but only to create flyers to print on my own network.
I use Excel to open files from others, but rarely to create a spreadsheet.
I guess my security concerns center around possibly receiving a corrupted file and opening it. I don't feel the need to upgrade to a later version than 2003 for productivity. It would only be for security or features, or compatibility.
