Due out Fall of 2015, assuming claims are correct (such as by Surprise! Microsoft jumps to Windows 10 - CNET, Windows 10 OS will supposedly be able to do a device detect and function accordingly -- but who will go for it?

Appears Microsoft wants to finally go from, what was previously, making a desktop OS more mobile-like in its features and operability, to covering several bases simultaneously be it laptop, smartphone, tablet or desktop. A tall task indeed.

But will it be enough of a revolution to entice existing multiple system users? To trust Win10 with more than one owned device, seems nearly monumental amounts need to be proven here (especially given the Windows 8 lacking track record). Not to mention availability of compatible apps and quality antivirus/firewall, etc.

They will get many companies eventually We have Window 7 Enterprise nd would never go to 8, but if they discontinue support for 7 as they did recently for XP, we have to decide whether to go to 10 (or whatever is out then) or go over to the other side. Many people already have Apple Laptops, and our corporate mobiles are I-phones, but we are pretty entrenched in MS office including Sharepoint and SSRS for SQL database systems.

I predict 10 will be wildly successful as so many folks often talk about skipping every other new version.

Another thing is whether companies and individuals will want to be dependent on Microsoft for "all their computing OS needs" . Once you do that ... another door might be opened in favor of M (price setting).

And that whole updating of your App's question. Of course M will have everyone on subscription basis by then, which will probably be the only thing compatible, coincidentally enough, so you'll be tied in both ways, ensuring you'll stay with them.

I'm dependent on Office too, bought 2013 because I didn't want a subscription.
