Is this a viable alternative to AutoCAD for 2D drawings? Can you open any dogs in TurboCAD?

We used to use it in a lab I worked in. We didn't do anything terribly sophisticated but it was nice enough.

If you just need basic 2D drawings, DraftSight is pretty good and has a free version. It's from the people who make SolidWorks.

Is that still around? 15+ years ago it was easier and way cheaper than AutoCAD.

Yes it is all depending all depending on what you would like to do.

Can you open any dwgs in TurboCAD?

What do you mean by *any dwg* ??
It does open *native* Autocad dwgs (since you asked for a comparison to Acad ---)
Your question is so *vague* that it is hard to make a statement if it would be OK for *you* to use.

How about you google it and then find out for yourself if it is *a viable* solution, for *you* ?

BTW, you can get a legit copy for under 100 green ones !!
TurboCAD Deluxe 2015 Powerful, Complete 2D/3D CAD Software
Bonus: Free Fundamental Training included. $50 retail value!
- TurboCAD Deluxe 2015

I would stay away from any old pirated copy you might have ...

I second this recommendation. I've been using it recently and it is a good AutoCAD clone.
