I just moved into a new apartment and my wireless adapter was working fine as I connected to the Network they have available there. I then had to unplug it since I noticed I put it in the USB slot where the audio jack is below and the Adapter is too fat to fit in there with the audio cable at the same time (some crappy Dell design flaw I guess).
Anyway, since then I've been unable to get it connected as it just says that the computer is unable to read the adapter. The big problem though is today I actually bought another adapter thinking it was a problem with the adapter. However, I plug it in and as I'm installing I get...the blue screen of death! I restart with the new adapter still in and it happens again! Then I start without the new adapter in and the computer works normally (except no Internet of course). Then I install the new adapter again and it appears to have installed, but the icon on the bottom right still shows an X through the computer icon meaning there is nothing hooked up to the computer that would allow Internet access. Even though the adapter IS plugged in.
I tried other USB drives on the same machine as well (there are six, two in front and four in back). However, no luck so far. The same drives work when I plug other things in them, but when it comes to using both my old and new adapter (which I made sure was compatible with my computer beforehand) neither one works to where it can connect to the Internet. Sometimes messages will pop up like, "This drive will work faster if you connect an Ethernet cable), but nothing actually of any use.
I found out what it was. I didn't uninstall the data for the old adapter so that was preventing the data from the new adapter from working for some reason. Once I uninstalled the data from the old adapter it worked.
