I am using a remote server and my home screen is a 4k 3840 x 2160 monitor. I have about a quarter inch gap at the top and bottom of the screen when logged into the server. Is there any way to get it to display full screen? I have the server option set to "full screen" but it doesn't help.

i assume its a linux server (which distro ?).
you dont indicate what 'remote server' software so i'll assume xrdp

on the client (what os ?; i'll assume fedora) using the rdesktop command you can indicate -f for fullscreen and something like -g 3840x2160 for 3840 by 2160 geometry.

I apologize for the title; I fixed the task bar problem but still had the gap. I thought I edited the title along with the post describing the other problem I have but the title didn't change.

I am using windows 10 at home and windows 2008 r2 server.

Have you taken a look at the display settings for the RDP session? You can also manually set a display resolution in your .rdp file.

does the windows version of the rdesktop command take the -g parameter to override the server default ?; maybe experimenting with values like:
rdesktop -g 3840x2200

will make it stretch the whole screen.
