On the Mac, how do we create raised and lowered symbols? Ex: C3H+ ..... The 3 should be lowered; The + should be raised. I suppose I could use ^ and v but I'd like to know the combination for making it scientific, if I can. Thank you.

That's called subscripts and superscripts. How to create them depends on program you are using. Read here about how in Pages or TextEdit on Mac. In OpenOffice Text document it is completely different.
