My wife keeps unplugging it. She's the conspiracy theorist (CT) in the house. I had put it away many months ago and decided to plug it back in. Not that I believe it's spying on me but it was irritating me when it would just come on for no reason. In addition, I would go into the Alexa app and see that I had a lot of "recordings" of nothing that made any sense. Kind of makes you wonder if it actually needs to hear the word "Alexa" to wake up.
This is a valid concern. But most of the people who complain about this forget about one thing... They are likely carrying around a tracking device that can over hear them and video them.... Their smartphone.
If you have a smart phone, I wouldn't not be worried about this issue that much.

If they are listening in on me they are bored, bored, bored.
99.999% of people in this world aren't worth spying on. If they choose me they are fools that do nothing but waste time and money. Nothing to see or hear folks.

99.99% of the people in this world, aren't even worth listening to. I know because I am one of them.
Sadly, all those people, again, me included, think that have something valuable to share with others, even though that is hardly the case!
Case in point, writing one post after another on these forums, simply because of the above-mentioned delusional inclination plus the fact that you can do so easily, and for free.

Are you still reading this?
Geez, get a life, would you!
Nobody is actually listening as "in person" just like nobody is directly monitoring what you search for on google or what you do on Facebook. I don't buy into this whole conspiracy thing either but rest assured, unless you are always on a good secure VPN and use the Tor browser, more often than not, your activities are being tracked. Usually, it is for marketing purposes but can be used for other more malicious reasons. I wouldn't be so naive either. Heads up is all I am saying. I know for A FACT that law enforcement monitors facebook for certain key "words". Alexa and other "personal assistants" record audio but that is quickly turned into text and processed just the same as all of your searches and posts into social media. Think about that one for a while. It's just as if you typed it. So nobody is actually "listening" as they did in an old fashioned wiretap unless you are under direct surveillance by law enforcement. Most online activity is being tracked and that includes these voice assistants. Google or Amazon don't do anything for free. It may seem that way but they get something in return, always. Ever seen the movie "Snowden"? If you are into movies, I would recommend anybody watch it, it may enlighten someone.
