Sporadic connections at 2.4 GHz; 5GHz seems fine (laptop, wifi, wireless)

A while back, I was having issues with one particular laptop (Dell Inspiron 15 3000). It would sporadically refuse to connect to the internet when connecting to the router at 2.4 GHz. I updated the drivers, etc. to no end, but then the issue seemed to just go away and, even when I changed routers months ago, it was fine. Just in the last 2 days, it's reared its head.
I hadn't tried it before, but I connected using the 5 GHz and it connects to the internet fine. Then I go back to 2.4 and it won't again. Then an hour later, the 2.4 connection is fine.
When it happened, I again updated drivers, rebooted the router (and computer) several times. But today the same thing happened again.
Anyone else have this issue and know what causes it? It's so sporadic (often months apart from incidents) that the computer repair shop had no clue.
I can just go ahead and use 5 GHz all the time, but I'm curious what is causing it.
2.4Ghz is crowded (wifi, phones, microwaves, wireless devices, etc.). It's not uncommon to have issues with 2.4Ghz and it's difficult to know what is causing it due to the number of variables involved. You can try changing the channel to see if that helps but it is not guaranteed.
Your best bet is to stick to 5Ghz. It's faster, less crowded, and suffers from less interference, but it does travel less further.

There are only 11 2.4Ghz channels and if I recall correctly only 3 don’t overlap to some degree. Compare that with 45 channels for 5Ghz.
My routers let me do a 'site survey' to see if there are any other routers nearby that are using the same channel. One of my routers was interfering with another one so I set them to different channels instead of letting them auto-select.

Reminds me of college.
Dude, wtf. You just wiped the raid. I hope your Hot Pocket was worth it.
Do you ever not have a smart ass comment? Some people like to understand things.
Looks like it's time to put you on "Ignore". Enough of your nonsense.
OMFG, It's a joke bro. Trying to be funny, not a smart ass.Using an old joke to make a point.
Just in case you haven't put me on ignore yet. I was making a very valid point. There is ZERO benefit to using anything less then the 5ghz network IF it sufficiently covers your apt.
I use the 2.4ghz in my house I get like 20m on a speed test. Use the 5? 200m.
If you have the coverage never use 2.4.
And lighten up.
