How do I fix it when one usb on the laptop isn't detecting the device that is being connected? It works on the right side. I already updated drivers on device manager, usb, and it has the latest drivers.

I think there are 3 types of USB drives and they all do not work in each others ports.
On my computer if I plug my printer into two usb ports it will not print but does print if I use the 3rd.

3 logical possibilities based on 3 suspects (which one is bad?):
- Port
- Cable
- Device

Common sense: If the both the cable and the port itself is good, the device would work.
So, you try another device, like a flash drive as a quick troubleshooting trick to see if the flash drive works without any issues. If it did, you just eliminated the port as being the culprit.
Then either the cable is bad or the device.

Important: Does the device in question require any drivers to work with the Operating System?
If the answer is YES, then you just introduced a new suspect.

So, with a device driver, here is another scenario; on the same machine, the device works fine on another USB port.
Well, You just eliminated the device drivers, the cable and the device as the suspect.
What is left?
