I think they have to physically drive up and down streets, taking pictures for the views we get. Hopefully they'll be updated periodically. In another thread, somebody posted a note saying people could make edits and corrections. I it was posted 11-12-2008, 04:15 PM by DCguy03

No, you can't get real time satellite imagery. Not unless you buy your own satellite, rent one already up there or work for a government spy agency.

Nope.

Satellite time is extraordinarily expensive. No news cast is spending that kind of money. I haven't seen what you're talking about so I don't know what it is that makes you think it's real time, but if it is, you're probably seeing some blending of satellite imagery and arial (e.g. news 'copter) footage.

You are right. Google has several levels of pricing for commercial versions of Google Earth. I suspect that some organizations have paid to have high resolution photography done over some areas. I've noticed that I can see fine detail in some places and not in others. You can almost count bricks on the Pentagon, but you can hardly figure out what you are seeing in Area 51.

i have noticed that when you zome in on military bases they are blurd out. i wanted to see what my area looks like on the satalite but it was a view 4 years before i lived here so i was seeing the peoples cars that lived here before me. oh well. maybe when i get 100 bucks that i don't need i'll buy the real time edition. it's still pretty cool though, you can set it up so you can see all kinds of sites. just click on the little cameras that pop up and you can check out all kinds of places. the other night dw and i went and checked out pearl harbor. very cool place to see.

I've thought it might be worthwhile to find a few key areas in California to watch so hopefully clues can be found that can nail people who set fires.

If that ever happens, I can make some suggestions.
