Reason: add XP
If you would take the time to read the basic information on the AVG Free web page you would see that the free version provides virus protection only, and that the Internet Protection version (NOT free) provides a lot of additional protections, including email.

These are windows in AVG free edition interface, there are seven items covered among them scanning email in and out, have been using on 2 computers for a long time.work very well.As to problem I was reading Ct news and AVG window came up and asked me to restart computer. Now o'k email scanner is active and trouble repaired. Thank you for your interest but you would be amazed at how well AVG free protects you.
Thank you EscapeCalifornia, I tried it but then it was causing an issue w/McAfee (I was getting that free) but now McAfee is screwing up so I removed it and will try AVG again.

You never want to run more than one antivirus program at a time. Getting rid of McCrappy is a good idea even though its free. I've "fixed" a lot of computers just by removing it.
AVG (new edition) won't install - I removed McAfee. It now appears (well, is true) that I have NO protection) sigh....
Are you getting and error message? Did you uninstall the old one first? You can also try deleting its program folder and registry keys and retry the installation.
