I have Windows XP Professional and want to know if there is a way to stop the automatic updates from appearing, it keeps appearing like every 15 mins and it's getting annoying.

I know that one way is to go to Start, open Control Panel, then Security Center and turn off Automatic Updates.

But I think that works just for Windows Updates.

Have you tried installing the updates its notifying you about? Turning off automatic updates is a great way to get yourself in trouble.

Fuljogo asked how not should I, EscapeCalifornia.

I figured out that he was an individual entitled to make his own choices.

Was I wrong?

Sometimes people aren't smart enough to ask the right question. EscapeCalifornia provided the answer to the question that should have been asked.

MediocreButArogant, I am certain that the OP is grateful to EscapeCalifornia for providing the answer to what he would need to know if he were smart enough to ask.

I have learned on CD's forums that the government fulfills that role; is EscapeCalifornia in the government's employ?

Good grief! Lighten up. Sure, you answered the OP's question, but EC's comment was appropriate, as was MBA's. I don't think EC's possible employment with the government is relevant to this thread.

Enh, I run without automatic updates. I despise my machine traipsing off across the internet downloading god-knows-what. I manually do updates every now and again, and select the ones that I want.

After all, if my system is stable, I don't want Microsoft mucking it up automatically.
