I have decided to invest some cash in a good 10k HD. I browsed a bit and came across this: Newegg.com - Western Digital VelociRaptor WD1500HLFS 150GB 10000 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

My question is....( might be a bit silly ) but are these sold without a cover ? Are the insides exposed? They make it look that way

They are covered. They wouldn't operate very long without being in a sealed environment.

I think we are dealing here with advertising sneakyness ... (is that a word?).

Have you noticed that, at many car sales lots, the hoods are open ?
Or ..
The car sits way up, on an inclined something, so you can look underneath ?

How many people would really know what they are looking at ?

So same with this advert.
One might say ...*Wow, that looks neat* ...
Gotto have that...
Without really knowing if it fills his or hers actual need.

I think irman was just pointing out that the pictures on the site are of the hard drive with the cover off so you can see how "cool" it is. It won't ship like that.

"As shipped," one hard drive looks pretty much like any other hard drive.
