So last night in my home office, I downloaded Firefox for the 1st time ever.
I'm stuck with IE8 because the MLS doesn't support anything else.

I booted up this morning and before Windows 7 ever opened, I saw:

UPDATING REGISTRY
And a counter racking up 12,764 registry "updates" to 12,764 files in large italic letters.
This is a new one to me.

(And it reorganized my Outlook folders back into alphabetical order.)

My question, in the most technical of terms:

"What the heck?"
Or, is that sort of thing unrelated to or typical of a new FF installation?

Doesn't sound like Firefox to me. I have seen my wife's Netbook on Windows 7 just arbitrarily decide it needs to do a whole bunch of updates, but they were unrelated to Firefox (which she also runs on her netbook).

Never seen that. Recommend you run a virus scan ASAP. Also, maybe even first, download malwarebytes and run a full scan.

Did you download Firefox from a mozilla or somewhere else?

Any chance you downloaded Thunderbird? (You wrote something about Outlook.)

Downloaded Firefox from Mozilla.

Have MS Security Essentials, and will run a scan.

I have been using Outlook 2007 on MS Hosted Exchange Email.

And maybe FF is not related but just coincidental.

Coincidental. My laptop does this on occasional and I've not had any problems. Don't let posters get you too worked up over it.

Thanks.
Not too worked up at all. Yet.
It was more a curiosity question on something I have never seen before.

And the MSE scan was clear.
