Hi, i have a couple of questions about the metro north rr. How much does it cost to ride the metro north rr to nyc if you wanted unlimited rides, like a monthly pass? I'm not familiar with it at all so what would be the cheapest way to get to nyc(manhatten) from stamford if you had a monthly pass for the nyc subway? Is a nyc subway monthly pass good for the metro north rr too or do you have to buy 2 different passes? Does it suck living in connecticut and riding mass transit into nyc or is it pretty much exactly the same as riding the nyc subway? Thanks i'm just not at all familiar with connecticut but i'm thinking i might like to be.

Subway passes don't work for Metro-North. A monthly pass from Stamford costs $260. Ouch! And that's without adding the cost of the subway. I'm not sure if you can buy them together for any discount.
I wouldn't say that it sucks, but figure you've got at least a 45 minute longer commute by living in Stamford. Lots of people do it, though. Some ride the train to NY each day from as far away as New Haven (2 hours on the train!).

So if you lived in stamford and commuted to nyc everyday you'd be looking at $350 a month in travel expenses since the nyc subway pass is $90 + the $260 for the metro-north!? Wow, that is a car payment or even rent for a studio in some low cost of living cities. Ouch is right. Thanks for the help.
