I went to the New Haven St. Patrick's Day parade today. Rosa Delauro and Richard Blumenthal came past and were cheered loudly. A couple of minutes later, Gov. Malloy and Lt. Gov. Wyman came by with (looked like) security walking with them. They were booed - at least by people in the area where I was standing, though I did not boo. Behind them was a black Chev. Suburban with "official plate" 1. I think it was there in case they had to retreat and get into the vehicle. Nice to see his ego deflated a little bit.

Raising taxes is never popular.

It seems it was more important to our last governor(s) to be cheered rather than dealing with the terrible budget issues the state has.

Yes it was all Rell's fault. I don't like the person because I can't stand liberals who pretend to be conservative...but lets get real. The democratic controlled legislation had a veto proof majority for over 30 years and THEY are the one's who set forth the budgets in this state. THEY are to blame.

Right... With some it's 100% blame the other side. My guy is blameless!

Give me a break.

The governor's position isn't ceremonial... The same logic you use to absolve Rell, can be used to absolve Malloy-- It's all the legislature anyhow, right?

The legislature certainly shares the blame for the current mess, but, to absolve the former governor and blame the current one borders on ridiculous.

By the way, 27 states (including Kansas, Arizona and Nevada) have raised some form of tax in the last two years... There is no choice if we are serious about getting the state's financial house in order.

Isn't that what you just did? "Oh Malloy wouldn't have to raise taxes if it wasn't for rell". Give me a break.

What part of veto proof do you not understand? The legislature in this state runs the place. This is no secret. Moreover, Rell is a LIBERAL. Shocker that a LIBERAL would get us into a mess like this.

They both suck. The state is run and controlled by LIBERALS and has been. That's why we are in a mess.

Malloy didn't "raise taxes in some form" This is the largest tax increase in the history of our state.

Baloney. When Weicker instituted the income tax it went from zero to whatever the initial income tax rate was.

Look, again I'm on your side. I support middle class tax relief, affordable housing and a number of other things that will make it easier for middle class families in Connecticut. But the money has to come from somewhere to undo the years of financial abuse. There is no way to cut programs enough to do the job. Taxes have to go up.

Malloy really does have a big ego. A lot of what he's said has rubbed me the wrong way, even forgetting his budget proposal, which doesn't appear to be serious about even attempting to limit out of control spending. He fails to recognize that we don't have a revenue problem; we have a spending problem. Rell's fatal mistake was proposing a tax increase at the beginning of her full term in 2007. After that, she had no leg to stand on in trying to control spending, though I think the dreadful legislature that we have deserves well over half the blame for the terrible situation in which the state has been placed.

I'm sorry if you don't know the details. This proposal is the largest increase in our state's history. And since you brought it up, that income tax was supposed to be temporary. 3 guesses who's kept it alive to date and increase it everytime the state needed a pay raise.

Taxes do NOT have to go up. Cuomo seems to be able to do it, Foley vowed he could do it.

Whatever, the bottom line is Malloy is going to destroy what's left of this state - which aint much.

I'm afraid I must agree with you. More and more, I'm thinking I'm going to have to get out of Connecticut once I retire. I would hate to leave, but with the direction the state is going in, I may not have a choice. I'm not going to allow my own quality of life will be ruined so we can keep financing welfare for people who make poor life choices and should be able to take care of themselves, and make political payoffs to the unions who control our elections here. The state seems to be in a downward spiral, and it sure as hell isn't going to be broken by the likes of Malloy. He's accelerating it.
