Is there anywhere else besides home depot that rents Aerators? I plan to do it this weekend, then over-seed.

Thanks!

Wanna hear something funny? My brother in law bought these shoes specifically for areating the soil. Its like cleats but the spikes are longer... Good Excercise and money stays in your pocket. lol

Don't waste your time or money on these. You're actually compacting the soil more with the spikes, since they're just pushing the dirt around to make holes. Get something that pulls out plugs. You can rent a core aerator, or buy a Yard Butler that will pull out 1/2" x 3" deep plugs to aerate your soil. Leave the plugs laying around, they'll break down eventually.

I spoke aerate every year with a tow behind attachment for my tractor. I used a power core aerator last year and thatch every year as well. Lookup Taylor Rental, I ise the local A to Z in North Haven. Also check Craigslist for equipment, lots of good buys there.

Areating is the biggest waste IMO. Just based on experience of both me never doing it and my neighbor doing it. Results are better on mine.

As long as you do the other stuff, you don't need to areate. "Other stuff" includes mowing leaves in and not worrying about "looking pretty" when that time comes.

I have people walk on my lawn saying "Is this sod?". And that's the biggest compliment when you have clay soil around and hasn't been aerated in decades.

I read a nice article from a state extension once & 1 thing caught my ears. They said there's a reason why Forest soils are rich and soft. Why? Because leaves are left to decompose there. I never realized that.
