I will be commuting from my home in Glastonbury, CT to Pace University Law School in White Plains, NY. mapquest says it will take me just under 2 hours. What kind of time should I allot for commuter traffic/backup? I need to be there by 9am.

It will likely take you about 2.5 to 3 hours during rush hour. No way you can move closer to White Plains?

Ouch. Since you'll be leaving early, you should be good until Danbury. There, you might have traffic getting onto 684, and then again on 684 coming into White Plains. I'd give yourself about a half hour extra on average, maybe 45 minutes to be safe - and see how that goes.

Yike! That will be a very long commute. It is not one I would want to do.

I would defintely avoid driving through Stamford. I-95 and the Merritt Parkway have some of the worst traffic in the state and should be avoided at all costs during rush hour.

That means you need to take I-84 to I-684 in New York. you will be driving through Waterbury and Danbury which will slow you down but no where near what you would experience driving through Stamford in the morning.

I would start out extra early for the first week or so and then gradually leave a little later each trip to see what the actual drive will take at that time. Also watch the traffic reports before you leave. If there is a problem on one of the roads you need to take you may need to leave early. Good luck, Jay

Don't forget about that nasty bottleneck in Waterbury where it goes down to 2 lanes after Cheshire.

I would recommend the OP take 91 to 691 to 84 instead of going through Hartford on 84.

That is not an enviable commute. Yikes. May you have much patience when the roads are coated with snow.

Yeah, I was just thinking if they hit that bottleneck around 7-7:30AM it might not be too bad.

I do the commute from Exit 56 (Orange) on the Merritt(If you choose this route) to White Plains everyday. The traffic does suck depending on when you leave. Myride in the morning takes me 1 hour.....with no traffic. There are mornings and nights when there is no traffic.......but its kind of rare. Coming home the traffic gets annoying in Westport. Lately though, my rides to and from have never been more than 1 hour and 10 minutes. There has been times where there is an accident or thick traffic and it has taken looooong......but as of late, the traffic has not been too bad. I stay off of 95 at all costs.....
Come Spring time, the traffic gets really heavy. I am used to my ride and commute time by now.....Do I love it ? No.......but that is how it is right now.
Glastonbury to White Plains though would be one helluva commute.........
I do have a friend who commutes from Waterbury to NY(SCARSDALE which is near WP) everyday and he said he has no major issues. Takes 1hour and a half on I-84

I commute from Southington to Stamford (84->8->15) and takes me typically 1 hour and 15 minutes.
