These are school districts currently accepting applications for elementary teaching positions next year.
I am currently teaching 1st grade in Louisiana and will be relocating to CT sometime in June, if our house here sells.
My husband will be traveling into the city, as well as Northern NJ, New York (up to Albany), CT, and RI for work. Where we klive is based more on where I will find a job.
We have a 3 yr old and a 1 yr old, so good daycares close by would be important. We can probably afford $300,00 at most for a house (would like at least 1700 sq ft in a family friendly area with neighborhood pools/ parks)
Where should I look? We will probably rent first, before we buy. What do you know about the school systems listed in the subject?
Thanks!

All of these are great towns. I would think the competition to get a teaching posiition in them will be tough. I wish you the best in finding one.

That said except for Farmington and Granby, the locations are kind of far from each other. There would really be no one place to live that would be a reasonable commute to all of these.

Farmington and Granby are in the Farmington River Valley which is a beautiful semi-rural suburban area to the west of Hartford. Schools in these towns are very well regarded and the towns are a bit upscale in character.

South Windsor is located east of Hartford. It is more of a typical suburban town but still very nice with good schools.

Cheshire is a somewhat upscale suburb of New Haven and Waterbury and is located more in central Connecticut. It is a nice town. Neighboring Southington may be a good location to live in if you get a job there. It also may be commutable to Farmington.

New Milford is in the far western part of Connecticut, north of the small city of Danbury. This is a small town surrounded by some very beautiful rural areas. There are a number of towns in that area that you might consider including Brookfield, New Fairfield and New Milford itself but again these are all far from the other towns you are looking at. I hope this helps. Jay.

Random selections for towns. What made you choose those?

I'd vote for South Windsor for proximity for your Husband and your housing budget etc.

Ah, I see. Cheshire is a nice central location for NY/RI/CT traveling IMO. Seems like a nice town. I'm not sure that you could go wrong with any of them.

Good point on the location, but I'm not sure there is much in the sub 300K market in Cheshire. I know KidYankee just went through that very search without much luck.

Also please keep in mind that I'm not sure if your teaching certificate from Louisiana would transfer to CT. So you may have to take the CT certification test, which I have heard is challenging.
But I don't know the particulars on this, just suggesting that it's something you should look in to.

Just wanted to give you a heads up re: transferring a certificate from another state. I went through an alt cert teacher program in FL (which was much more rigorous than taking education courses) and CT refused to transfer my cert because they do not accept alt cert. I also had an M. Ed. from an accredited university in FL, but apparently the courses I took were not "approved" by CT. I ended up having to take 8 courses in addition to the Praxis II to get my cert (I waived the Praxis I due to GRE scores). Moral of the story is, get your cert before you find a job. I ended up losing out on a great job because my cert did not go through. Feel free to DM me on this-- do not want anyone else going through what I did.

Visuals are always good.

Circles are the towns OP mentioned.

Using just Albany, Granby is the closest. But obviously farthest from NJ or RI. I like Stylo's suggestion of Cheshire based on location. Maybe even Farmington. I'm not familiar with schools systems..
