Hi help! I seem to be the only single person moving here im sure there is a lot to get invojved in in hartford but how do i become involved in the singles community locally not having a family. ALSO can someone give me the overall vibe of the town is it liberal or conservative i made my first visit last week and met so many nice welcoming people i just dont want to end up anywhere snooty like westport. Thanks!
You're near West Hartford, which is good for young singles.
Farmington is fine. It's liberal. This is CT after all, even the conservative towns are moderate compared to southern states. And don't worry, it's nothing like Westport.
Farmington is nice and actually has more singles than you think. There are many apartments and condo complexes. It's just a more quiet town than West Hartford. As a 27-year old single myself, I would certainly consider living in Farmington. And yes, the people are generally nice. But don't expect any nightlife or bar scenes for young people. Even so, there are places like Wood 'n Tap and West Farms Mall.
The OP really does not give a lot of information. Are they actually moving to Farmington or just working there? Also I am not sure why the OP feels Westport is snooty. I don't think it really is any more so than any other affluent suburb.
Farmington is also an affluent suburb so you will find some snooty people there. If you are single it may be hard to find things to do for just singles there. You may want to look at neighboring West Hartford or Hartford for more activities. Like anywhere, your personal life will be what you make it to be. Get out and meet people with similar interests by joining groups or doing activities. Jay
Farmington is not "liberal". It's pretty traditional, politically moderate and family oriented.
I know a 20-something from Pittsburgh who moved to Farmington and wanted to tear his eyes out. He was so bored. He eventually moved to downtown West Hartford and enjoyed it a lot more, but even then, ended up moving back to PA.

I don't think it's as family oriented as you say. It's kind of mixed. There are many apartments and condo complexes in Farmington. I know many 20-somethings who are the professional, settled type who live there and like it. There are many young professionals who work at the UConn Health Center who live in town, renting condos and apartments. For the college student type, I could totally see someone being bored to tears though. It's certainly not a place for a young extroverted type. Personally, I like it. It's the entrance to the Farmington Valley cluster of towns, which I grew up in. But I will say that beyond that, the rest of Farmington Valley is extremely family oriented. I would kill myself.
