Anyone know of anywhere I can get some fall hardy vegetable garden seedlings in CT? Veggies like spinach, kale, brocolli, brussels, beets all grow well into the fall if planted now from seedling/young plant. I was too lazy to grow from seed about 2 months ago but am finding all the nurseries and garden centers around here don't sell seedlings for a fall garden like they do in spring. I guess fall gardening is not so popular

I've been to four garden centers recently along the shoreline east of New Haven in the past couple of weeks buying fall flowers, gourds, etc. None were carrying any veggies. Basically not economical for the garden center to carry what is not bringing in customers.

However, You might be able to find full grown cabbage or kale plants ( usually the purple varieties) being sold as ornamental plantings. I'd call ahead and ask first before going on a wild goose chase, where ever it is you live.

Have you considered using a cold frame ? Cool weather seedlings will grow well in them, even now. Doesn't have to be labor intensive like building a wood and glass type. But perhaps one of those small metal frames with plastic covers things might work.

Good luck !
